Movie review: Make 'The Heat' your plan B

It's double agent time again at the box-office and who does it better than our very own 'Miss Congeniality'. With funny lines that border on the offensive at times, 'The Heat' definitely doesn't fall into the must-watch category. Still, an uncomfortable Sandra Bullock and a foul-mouthed Melissa McCarthy make for an enjoyable watch.

What's it about?
FBI agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is hard-working and equally unpopular with the rest of her colleagues. To latch on to a likely promotion opportunity, Ashburn decides to use her mojo for a big assignment in Boston. Once there, she starts off on a sour note with an equally awkward detective Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) who curses her way through the day. Working on the same case, the friction between the two is soon greased till the two realise they are perfect as a team. The proceedings further make for a usual cop-comedy grub.

To say that the film's concept or plot was original wouldn't be fair. The film's spunky dialogues add the right amount of zing to it.

Sandra Bullock performs the role of an uncomfortably awkward FBI agent very well. Her Sherlock Holmes-esque abilities to solve cases were fun to watch. Although having seen her in similar roles in her previous films (she also reminded us of the over-powering boss in 'The Proposal'), this one was sure to come easy. Even with Bullock in the same frame, it was Melissa McCarthy who made the film more delightful. The rugged, disdainful attitude came naturally to her and we enjoyed the scenes she was a part of.

The camaraderie between Bullock and McCarthy is one to look out for. The film has some LOL moments like the drunken bar scene and another one with Michael McDonald during interrogation, but other than that it's another fare full of hot air.

What to do?
An average film with witty lines, good performances but a done-to-death plot, 'The Heat' can be your plan B this monsoon.
