How did the releases this week (Raanjhanaa, Shortcut Romeo, Enemmy, World War Z) perform at the box office? We take a look...
BO performance of Raanjhanaa
All India collections: Rs 20 crore approx (opening weekend)
Verdict: Hit
Thanks to largely positive reviews and word-of-mouth publicity, Dhanush's 'Raanjhanaa' has had a stunning first weekend at the box office. Collections steadily improved from Friday and even though it will experience a dip from Monday on, only one big release this coming week (Ghanchakkar) stands in its way as serious competition.
BO performance of Shortcut Romeo and Enemmy
Enemmy (left) and Shortcut Romeo have tanked at the box office
All India collections: Negligible
Verdict: Flops
'Shortcut Romeo' received mixed reviews from critics but has been unable to make a splash at the box office. The same was true for 'Enemmy' but this we saw coming, given that critics across the board thrashed the film (we did too).
BO performance of World War Z
For a Hollywood film, World War Z has performed above average
All India collections: Rs 8.5 crore approx (opening weekend)
Verdict: Above average
While 'World War Z' hasn't been able to rope in the bumper collections of a 'Man of Steel' or 'Iron Man 3', the movie's performed better than most Hollywood flicks in its first weekend. With the A-rated comedy 'The Heat' posing little threat, it remains to be seen whether Jason Statham's 'Hummingbird' can edge this zombie thriller out in week two.
BO performance of past releases
Fukrey (left) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani have both proved to be hits at the box office!
'Fukrey' has had an excellent second week at the box office with its total tally now standing at Rs 25 crore! A certified hit, this comedy has managed to worm its way into the hearts of audiences everywhere.
In the meantime, the juggernaut that is 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' continues to come closer to the Rs 200 crore mark every single day. As of this weekend, the tally is now at Rs 183 crore.
