The assembly elections in four states, including Rajasthan, later this year have been hyped as the semi-finals before next year’s general elections. And, the BJP which has been out of power, both in the state and Centre, is leaving no stone unturned to win this battle.
After state party president Vasundhara Raje covered the length and breadth of the state to galvanise party workers, BJP has now roped in arguably the most popular party leader and chairman of its Election Campaign Committee, Narendra Modi, as the showstopper for its massive rally to conclude ‘Suraj Sankalp Yatra’.
Raje travelled 14,500 kms, covered 181 out of 200 assembly constituencies by holding 181 public meetings in last five months as part of pre-election campaigning Although, party’s national president Rajnath Singh, who was in Charbhuja to flag off the yatra on April 4, would also be attending the rally, all eyes will be on Modi, who is expected to be announced as the party’s prime ministerial candidate anytime now.
Before Tuesday’s Jaipur rally at Amroodon ka Bagh, Modi has attended similar public meeting as chief speaker in Chhatisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, a clear acknowledgement of Gujarat chief minister’s popularity. In fact, to ensure Modi’s presence, the state BJP had postponed the rally by a month; earlier it was to be held on August 11.
Thousands of booth workers from village level, district party functionaries, representatives of elected bodies, MLAs, MPs, and senior party leaders have been working hard for last one month to ensure huge presence befitting Modi’s iconic stature.
The party had set an ambitious target of 5 lakh people for which it formed a team of 10 workers for each of the 47000 polling booth.
As part of the BJP’s grand Muslim outreach strategy, clerics from Ajmer Sharif will be seen honouring Narendra Modi. Leaders of state minority cell have also been asked to ensure the presence of minority community in their traditional skullcap and sherwani.
But, success of this rally would not matter much unless BJP carry on the momentum and win assembly polls. The BJP has been relying heavily on Modi magic in Hindi speaking states, so the outcome here is crucial for his own political fortune.
